Excerpts from the Nām Ghosā : Vastu Prakās

image of the Guru

Vastu Prakās refers to the The Revelation of Reals or The Revelation of Essence. In this section of the Nām Ghosā, Madhavadeva dwells upon ‘Guru’, one of the 4 reals (vastus) of Assam Vaisnavism.

Hari nāma rase / Vaikuntha prakāse
	prema amritara nadi
Srimanta Sankare / pāra bhāngi dilā
	bahe brahmāndaka bhedi // [371]

The sweet extract of Hari-Nāma is revealed in Vaikuntha
As the river of the nectar of love.
Glorious Sankara demolished the embankments
And it flows down penetrating the universe. [371]

Govindara prema / amritara nadi
	bahe Vaikunthara parā
cāri purusārtha / tāhāra nijharā
Hari Nāma mula dhārā // [372]

The river of the nectar of love of Govinda
Flows down from Vaikuntha :
The four purusārthas are its tributaries,
The Name of Hari is the main stream. [372]

Hari bhakti dāna / diyā jagataka
	tārilā samsāra sindhu
henaya kripālu / Sankara bināy
nāhi nāhi āra bandhu // [373]

Offering the gift of Devotion to Hari,
He saved the inhabitants of the globe from the world-ocean.
There is no friend, twice do we declare,
Other than such kind-hearted Sankara. [373]

Hari bhakatira / pātilanta hāta
	Sankare jagata juri
Rāma Nāma ratna / behāyā jagate
	calaya Vaikuntha puri // [374]

All throughout the globe, Sankara established
The market of devotion to Hari
And left for Vaikuntha
Selling the jewel of Rāma Nāma in the world. [374]

Srimanta Sankara / Hari bhakatara
	jānā yena kalpataru
tāhānta bināi / nāi nāi nāi
	āmāra Parama Guru // [375]

Know ye that Srimanta Sankara is like the wish-yielding tree (kalpataru)
Of all the devotees of Hari.
Be triple sure that excepting him,
We have no other Parama Guru (paramount guide). [375]
