A Skilful Reformer

  1. Avoidance of madhurya-bhava and upholding of 'Non Duality of Godhead'
    Dr Suniti Kumar Chatterjee observes :
    "The amoral and anti-social ideal of the (female) figure or the parakiya has always had the risk of bringing in eroticism and even moral turpitude and this was carefully avoided by Sankaradeva."
    No 'prakriti' element is present in Sankaradeva's religon for complementation with the 'purusa' element in Mahapurusism. (Brahma is above both prakriti and purusa)
  2. Worship of other gods and goddesses are strictly forbidden :

    		anya devi-deva  nakariba seva
    		murttika nachaiba tar |
    		prasada nakhaiba grihaka napasiba
    		bhakti haibe vyavichar ||
  3. Sankaradeva debarred his followers from leading the life of a sanyasi. One need not forsake the world to find God :

    	yito jnani jitendriya atmata ramaya |
    	grha-vasa dose va tahanka ki karaya ||

    (“In what way can the blemishes of a house-holder's life affect the wise, who has subdued the senses and who enjoyed being absorbed within himself ie soul”)
